Two hundred years

Worship here began in farmhouses around 1811. Three houses of worship have stood on this ground since 1833. The logs of the first are still under the floor you’ll stand on.

The feature · No. 01

Sunday morning,
ten o'clock.

One service a week, in one room, with the same hymnal your grandmother would recognise.

Worship begins at ten and it is not long. There is an organ, a piano, a guitar leaning against the chancel step, and a congregation small enough that somebody will notice you came and say so afterwards. The music runs from the old hymns to something more recent, and nobody minds either way.

You do not need to dress up. You do not need to know when to stand. There is no membership form waiting in the vestibule and no one will ask you for money — the plate is passed, and passing it on is a perfectly ordinary thing to do.

Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month at the rail. If you have children with you, bring them in — they are not a disruption, they are the point of a good deal of what happens here.

The same ground

Three houses of worship have stood here since 1833 — log, then brick, then this one. The graves beside the church are the oldest continuous thing on the property.
